tombe JB Splingaerd à Chala-Beijing

Voici le cartouche frontal de la tombe de droite. Comme sur l'autre tombe, le première mot de la transcription chinoise est Splingaerd. On ne distingue clairement que le sinogramme Lin. Les autres caractères sont imprécis. Nous avions espéré que son nom chinois apparaisse (Lin Zi-Xiang) mais cela ne semble pas être le cas.

On remarquera les deux 'chiffres' PHS (Philomène Splingaerd) et JBS (Jean-Baptiste Splingaerd), ce dernier déjà observé sur son cachet.

Ces tombes jumellées se trouvaient au cimetière chrétien de Chala avant la révolution culturelle. Ainsi, Marguerite Splingaerd a sans doute respecté le voeux de John d'être inhumé avec sa première femme, avant de partir au Vénézuela.

Here the cartouche front of the grave right. As the other one, the first word of the Chinese transcription is Splingaerd. We can distinguish clearly the translingual Lin. Other characters are unclear. We had hoped that his Chinese name appears (Lin Zi-Xiang) but this does not seem to be the case.

Note the two 'monograms' (PHS Philomena Splingaerd ) and JBS (Jean-Baptiste Splingaerd), the latter already seen on his seal.

These graves were in-detached Christian cemetery Chala before the Cultural Revolution. Thus, Marguerite Splingaerd probably respected the wishes of John to be buried with his first wife, before leaving for Venezuela.
